The "Where I Live" CD is a recording of a commissioned work on the subject of Breast Cancer. The chorus premired this oratorio written by Diane Benjamin in the spring of 2000. The chorus also performed this piece at GALA 2000 in San Jose. All profits from the sale of this cd go to local breast cancer support and research groups.
One of the goals of the chorus' commission was to sponsor a work that would be accessible for the widest possible range of vocal groups - large and small choruses, community groups and trained musicians, scored for piano accompaniment and full chamber orchestra alike; as breast cancer is a disease without preference for background, demographic, age or resource, so is music. This is a piece that speaks to the frustration and insecurity of the illness as well as the courage and consciousness of the spirit that confronts it. It is our deepest hope that this work will speak to all breast cancer survivors, their families and loved ones, and to all of us that wonder what measure of courage we would be able to muster in the same situation.
