About Us
The Denver Women's Chorus Mission
The members of the CHORUS have joined together as a non-profit organization of primarily women who are building community through a dedication to musical excellence. The chorus is open to all persons who are either Lesbian or who are respectful of Lesbianism. Through its performances and other activities, the CHORUS provides cultural, educational and social enrichment, thereby making a positive contribution to its Members, its audience and the community.
The Denver Women's Chorus Vision
We are a community chorus of women with equal interests in our music and our social environment. We feel that music should challenge and inspire us, and we do want to be pushed to better ourselves musically, but that interest is balanced with the need to enjoy the experience, each other and the community that we create by singing together.
History
For more than 20 years, the Denver Women's Chorus has remained true to the commitment of its founders. Women dedicated to building community through musical excellence. We believe that choral music can be a passionate, meaningful and healing experience that validates our lives and those with whom we share our song.
Equal with the importance placed on musical excellence, the Denver Women's Chorus has made a commitment to identify and perform music which speaks to our lives and experiences as women, and to encourage women composers.
We are committed to music which is respectful of the lifestyle, cultural and religious differences within and without our community. Breaking from the framework of traditional choral music, the Denver Women's Chorus shares spiritual, feminist and political perspectives through a broad spectrum of musical offerings. Firm in our belief that music transcends all language, we strive to express the joy, pain and strength of women through unique and powerful music.
